The journal is widely read in the UK and overseas and is a source of authoritative commentary on the current state of SEND (special educational needs and disability) policy and practice. It aims to capture the characteristics and the wide range of opportunities, challenges and prospects for these learners, across all sectors of education. Support for Learning seeks to act as medium via which fruitful dialogue between academics and practitioners, reflected in articles which capture the ‘close-to practice’ features of policy and practice in SEND. Our aim is to share information that is useful and purposeful to those supporting children and young people with SEND. We therefore prioritise articles that have the potential to positively impact upon practice. Theoretical or empirical research into strategies to eliminate underachievement, enhance inclusivity and promote best practice are especially welcome. Both qualitative and quantitative studies are encouraged, with an emphasis on small-scale, practice focused studies which draw on the lived experience of the key stakeholders in SEND provision in mainstream and specialist settings. From time-to-time, Support for Learning highlights a topical theme as a focus for a themed issue. If you would like to propose such a theme, and perhaps lead as guest editor for the issue, please contact the editors. The journal is particularly concerned with: The relationship between theory, research and SEND practice; Curriculum development and delivery for students with SEND; Effective use of learning environments and resources to support SEND learners; Current educational issues in the field of SEND and Alternative Provision; Reflective commentaries/personal accounts of topical or contested thematic aspect of SEND and AP. We particularly welcome submissions from practising teachers, teaching assistants and others working directly with those with special educational needs in schools and settings. We encourage submissions both from the counties comprising the United Kingdom and internationally, from diverse global locations.
