Aims, scope and focus

By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology Research, Alzheimer's disease research and treatments and Parkinson's Disease Mechanisms and Treatments, together about 30.4% of its articles. Its main subfields are Neurology and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)
Neurobiology of Disease is a major international open access journal at the interface between basic and clinical neuroscience. The journal provides a forum for the publication of top quality research or review papers on: molecular and cellular definitions of disease mechanisms, the neural systems and underpinning behavioral disorders, the genetics of inherited neurological and psychiatric diseases, nervous system aging, and findings relevant to the development of new therapies whether those are informative about the neurobiology of the considered condition. Neurobiology of Disease also welcomes manuscripts reporting negative results. Negative data and refutations are important to foster critical mind and scientific debate around important neurobiological questions. Authors must provide solid arguments to the Editors of the paramount importance of their observations. Validation of putative therapeutics without gaining significant new knowledge is not appropriate for Neurobiology of Disease. Similarly, articles with a narrowly focused application of a single technique, such as neuroimaging or ‘omics, are better suited for publication in specialized, methodologically focused journals. For instance, neuroimaging studies that do not incorporate molecular or cellular investigation fall outside the journal’s remit.
