The purpose of HFEMSI: Human Factors and Ergonomics in Manufacturing & Service Industries is to facilitate discovery, integration, application and translation of scientific knowledge within Human Factors and Ergonomics(HFE). HFE is formally defined as “the scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimise human well-being and overall system performance” (International Ergonomics Association, 2019). Accordingly, we invite submissions covering all dimensions of HFE, including physical, cognitive, organizational, and systems HFE. Whilst the Journal retains an interest in understanding and optimising the Manufacturing & Service Industries, this focus is not exclusive and as the field of HFE evolves we encourage submissions which cover a broad range of contemporary HFE issues in any domain. These include theoretical and methodological development, testing and evaluation of HFE methods, the translation of HFE theory and methods in practice, and novel HFE applications in new areas. We are also interested in HFE theory, methods, and studies that can be translated in the Manufacturing and Service Industries. The inter- and cross-disciplinary nature of the journal allows for a wide scope of issues relevant to system design and engineering, social, organizational, and system behaviour and safety, and health and wellbeing. Note, submitted articles should involve the application of HFE theory and/or methods, and should have a clear and substantive contribution to knowledge in HFE specifically. Examples of specific subject areas of interest include: Work design and analysis Training and education Teamwork Risk assessment, accident analysis and investigation Physical HFE (e.g., anthropometrics) Cognitive HFE (e.g., situation awareness, workload, decision making) Systems HFE (e.g., systems design and analysis, complexity, accident causation) The design and implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies Human aspects of computer-aided design and engineering Agile manufacturing, Human factors in total quality management, safety and the prevention of work-related injuries Worker health and wellbeing Ergonomics of workplace, equipment and tool design Automation and robotics The internet of things Artificial intelligence Systems analysis and design Out of scope Whilst the discipline of HFE covers a broad ra

Wiley believes that journals publishing for communities with established pre-print servers should allow authors to submit manuscripts which have already been made available on a non-commercial preprint server. Allowing submission does not, of course, guarantee that an article will be sent out for review. It simply reflects our belief that journals should not rule out reviewing a paper simply becau…
