Austral Comunicación es una publicación científica editada por la Facultad de Comunicación de la Universidad Austral. La revista se propone recoger y difundir trabajos originales e inéditos de investigación aplicada y de teoría básica de las diferentes tradiciones, tendencias y líneas de las ciencias de la comunicación. Son sus destinatarios fundamentales los investigadores y los docentes universitarios, a los que se les ofrece un espacio para intercambiar sus estudios y para compartir sus experiencias. La revista ofrece en acceso abierto artículos, reseñas y otros textos, tales como experiencias de cátedra, avances en trabajos de investigación de alumnos y entrevistas a personalidades o profesionales de la comunicación. Los temas que aborda Austral Comunicación son tan vastos como el campo de los estudios en comunicación: comunicación en los asuntos públicos, gestión de contenidos, comunicación institucional, relaciones públicas, publicidad, relaciones internacionales, teoría de los efectos de los medios, estudios de recepción, nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación, políticas de comunicación, comunicación política, comunicación interpersonal, comunicación y cultura, entre otros. Además, la revista suele publicar números monográficos, con lo que se procura ofrecer investigación y teoría sobre temas o tópicos en particular. Por su misma vocación universal, Austral Comunicación publica artículos en español, inglés y portugués.
