La revista fue creada en el Instituto Universitario de Educación Física y Deporte de la Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia) en 2012, como nuevo medio de divulgación de la estrategia de gestión del conocimiento que lleva su mismo nombre, y que desde 2004 publicaba sus contenidos en un repositorio abierto. La estrategia se basa en el estímulo y apoyo a la publicación de trabajos académicos producidos por la comunidad académica del Instituto (estudiantes de pregrado y posgrado, docentes y egresados) y por profesionales en motricidad, educación física, deporte, actividad física y áreas afines en el mundo, buscando con ello promover el talento profesional, a la vez que contribuir a la consolidación de dichas áreas, aportando trabajos de calidad, útiles para enseñar, aprender, discutir, investigar, entrenar. Se admiten y publican trabajos originales en español o inglés de distinto tipo, como material de enseñanza (apuntes de clase, unidades didácticas, planes de entrenamiento deportivo, guías de actividad física, etc.), informes de investigación, revisiones temáticas, ensayos y artículos de opinión. Por este motivo hay flexibilidad en cuanto a la estructura y extensión de los manuscritos, aunque siempre se deben ajustar a características de la escritura académica y científica como claridad, concisión, coherencia, consistencia, objetividad, pertinencia, validez.
