Aims, scope and focus

By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Academic integrity and plagiarism, Ethics in Business and Education and Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Education, together about 62.3% of its articles. The International Journal for Educational Integrity (IJEI) publishes research on educational integrity from educators, researchers, and practitioners across all sectors and regions. These sectors include early-childhood, primary, and secondary education, vocational and technical education, higher education, and adult and continuing education, together with the professional and workplace settings in which educational integrity applies. Academic integrity is an established field of research with its own foundational literature, theoretical frameworks, terminology, and scholarly community. Authors must situate their submissions within this field and acknowledge relevant prior scholarship. Submissions that treat educational integrity as a new or isolated concern, without reference to existing work in the field, are unlikely to meet the journal’s requirements for review. IJEI publishes work in which authors examine the changing nature of education in a globalized environment and the impact that conceptions of educational integrity have on pedagogy, academic standards, honour codes, intercultural understanding, and equity. The journal gives particular attention to equity, inclusion, accessibility, and diversity in educational integrity. This strand includes research on the Indigenization and decolonization of integrity policy, pedagogy, and practice; the accessibility and equity of integrity processes, assessment, and technologies for disabled students, neurodivergent students, and multilingual learners; and the cultural and contextual assumptions embedded in prevailing definitions of integrity, and misconduct. Our primary areas of interest as they relate to educational integrity include, but are not limited to, plagiarism, academic cheating, contract cheating, academic and research integrity, honour codes, institutional integrity, teaching and learning, pedagogy, assessment, student motivation, and postplagiarism. The journal also welcomes research on artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies in teaching, learning, assessment, and integrity, providing that the main focus of the submission relates to one of the primary areas of interest noted above. The IJEI welcomes original research, including practitioner research, theoretical discussions. Note that commentary articles and reviews are normally invited by the editor.
