Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Perspectives-Studies in Translation Theory and Practice is published by Taylor & Francis and is in Zone 2 of Literature in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Translation Studies and Practices, Interpreting and Communication in Healthcare and Subtitles and Audiovisual Media, together about 54.3% of its articles. Its main subfields are Language and Linguistics. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Perspectives: Studies in Translation Theory and Practice encourages the submission of papers that explore issues related to language and cultural mediation, with particular emphasis on literary translation and media translation (including the translation of a wide range of audiovisual products). Other forms of translation may also be considered. Empirical studies are especially welcome. Articles should appeal to a broad international readership and avoid excessive use of specialized jargon. As an international generalist journal, Perspectives aims to maintain a balance both in the thematic focus of its articles and in the geographical diversity of its authors, while consistently ensuring the highest standards of quality. Except in the case of special or thematic issues, Perspectives no longer considers articles focused on translation training or trainees, nor on interpreting. Feminist translation studies should instead be submitted to Routledge’s journal dedicated to translation and feminism. The journal does not process submissions that focus primarily on comparative analyses of source and target texts or that merely analyse translation strategies. Although Perspectives encourages interdisciplinary research—particularly in areas such as communication studies, applied and theoretical linguistics, history, and literary theory—submissions should offer original contributions and not simply reiterate previous studies. In light of the exponential growth in submissions related to artificial intelligence, articles addressing large language models (LLMs) will only be considered if they move beyond reflections on quality issues or straightforward comparisons between human and AI translation, or among different AI systems. Authors who are uncertain about the suitability of their topic are encouraged to contact the editor-in-chief before submitting in order to avoid a lengthy submission process. Proposals for special issues should be directed to the editor-in-chief. Please note that no slots for special issues are available until 2031.
