New Technology, Work and Employment publishes theoretically informed, critical scholarly analysis of the changing nature of work and employment, and its relationship to technology and technological developments. The journal promotes enhanced analysis of the shifting contours of work and employment and encourages a critical understanding of the multiple dimensions of technological change in the workplace, the labour market and employment more generally. The journal is genuinely international in scope and has a primarily sociological basis of study, but welcomes contributions with a critical perspective from disciplines across the social sciences that question current orthodoxies and challenge mainstream approaches. Its aim is to promote understanding through conceptual debates on the broader political and social context of technological change in relation to structures of work and working lives. The journal locates itself in the areas of employment relations, critical perspectives on management, social studies of technology, organisational and labour studies, and reflective scholarly traditions that highlight the social, economic and political contexts of new technology. New Technology, Work and Employment welcomes strong empirical contributions that develop and extend theory as well as conceptual papers that critique and progress existing theory. The area of new technology, work and employment is wide-ranging but the journal is explicit in not being a vehicle for prescriptive, managerial approaches. We welcome research that draws on the practical implications of the study and is grounded in an approach that critiques and questions the relationship between technology, work and employment as opposed to generating advice, guidelines or formulae for particular actors or groups. Controversy and debate are encouraged, but articles should also be intelligible to non-specialists as well as specialists. New Technology, Work and Employment welcomes submissions using appropriate social science research methods that are suitable for both the research context and research questions. The journal strongly encourages research that is situated within its wider environment, highlighting contextual issues and providing original contributions to broader academic debates. The journal publishes both qualitative and quantitative research articles, with an emphasis on robustness and accessibility to a wide audience.
