Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design is published by Springer International Publishing and is in Zone 3 of Biology in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Computational Drug Discovery Methods, Protein Structure and Dynamics and Chemical Synthesis and Analysis, together about 47.5% of its articles. Its main subfields are Molecular Biology. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

The Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design provides a forum for disseminating information on both the theory and the application of computer-based methods in the analysis and design of molecules. Priority will be given to papers with experimental validation of the computational results. In particular, predictive methods using traditional approaches must be accompanied by compelling experimental evidence. For studies reporting novel methods or innovative computational strategies, a proper retrospective validation may suffice, although a prospective validation is encouraged. The scope of the journal encompasses papers which report new and original research and applications in the following areas: ● computational chemistry ● theoretical chemistry ● chemoinformatics and bioinformatics ● computational drug design and development ● molecular modeling ● protein engineering ● machine learning methods ● computation in support of non-animal modalities ● expert systems ● structure-property relationships ● molecular dynamics ● chemical database development and usage Contributions on computer-aided molecular modeling studies in pharmaceutical, polymer, materials and surface sciences, as well as other molecular-based disciplines, are welcome. Timely original review articles and perspectives are also welcome.
