The Journal of Building Performance Simulation (JBPS) is the official journal of the International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA). JBPS publishes original research papers, comprehensive review articles, conceptual research papers, researched case studies, viewpoint articles, method articles and data notes from around the world. JBPS advances and promotes techniques and application of building environmental performance modelling and simulation to improve the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of buildings in support of sustainable and healthy communities. JBPS covers a wide range of spatial scales, ranging from building components and systems, to buildings, neighbourhoods and cities. JBPS includes, but is not limited to, the following topics and themes: Modelling and simulation of: physical processes in the built environment (thermal, air flow, moisture, indoor air quality, lighting, acoustics), energy performance and indoor environmental quality, energy harvesting, conversion, storage, distribution, flexibility and associated control systems, and occupant behaviour in relation to building design and operation, weather data, and other boundary conditions impacting building and environmental performance. Simulation methods and algorithms for: optimizing the performance of (aggregations of) buildings and their systems, including interaction with the urban environment, transportation, the electrical grid and/or heat/cold networks, quality assurance – including useability - of building performance simulation techniques and tools. Advances in building performance modelling, and optimization techniques, including big data, machine learning and other artificial intelligence based developments, and validation, verification and uncertainty quantification. Software development techniques, interoperability issues and workflows with direct applicability to building performance simulation. Techniques for educating and training building simulation tool users. Researched case studies that demonstrate building performance simulation in use for any stage of the design, construction, commissioning, operation, or management of buildings and their systems are welcomed if they include validation or make a novel contribution to building performance simulation knowledge. Studies focused on the performance of buildings and their systems, rather than on modelling and simulation will not be considered. All articles submitted to JBPS are subject to
