La revista Enseñanza de las Ciencias sólo admitirá artículos que traten de temas relevantes para la educación científica y matemática y que no hayan sido publicados previamente en otros medios. Son diversos los objetivos en los que se pretende incidir que pueden concretarse en los aspectos siguientes: En primer lugar, en relación con el campo de la enseñanza de las ciencias y de las matemáticas, profundizar en la base teórica de los estudios e investigaciones publicados, propiciar reflexiones fundamentadas en relación con el estado y las perspectivas de las diferentes líneas de investigación prioritarias en la actualidad, y fomentar trabajos interpretativos que permitan avanzar en la comprensión de problemas significativos relacionados con el aprendizaje científico y matemático. En segundo lugar, promover los estudios que correspondan a las necesidades del profesorado de ciencias y matemáticas y que profundicen en el impacto de diferentes prácticas educativas ya sea en el aula o en contextos informales; favoreciendo la publicación de estudios, relacionados con la enseñanza y aprendizaje de contenidos científicos y matemáticos, que analicen la gestión del aula (trabajo en pequeño o gran grupo, cooperación y trabajo individual, etc.), el grado de implicación del estudiante en el aprendizaje, su autonomía o dependencia, la atención a la diversidad de intereses y niveles de los estudiantes de un grupo-clase, el diseño y la aplicación de actividades de diferentes tipos, la regulación de los errores en el proceso de aprendizaje, etc. Por último, animar los análisis críticos sobre los trabajos que se están realizando en la actualidad.
