English in Education publishes research-based articles and short creative pieces that provide informed reflection on the teaching of English in all stages of education. We are an L1 journal: most of our readers live and work in countries where English is the main language of communication. We do not normally accept submissions on the teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) unless they are of relevance to our core readership. Given the increasing diversity of our societies, we are very interested in multilingualism classrooms. We regard English as a dynamic, creative and integrated study of the language in all its forms and modes, including literature and digital media. We welcome submissions from teachers and researchers of English education, especially on topics of current interest and/or concern. Relevant aspects of English education include (but are not limited to) the teaching of: • Oracy, including children’s developing powers of thought and discussion; • Reading, including early reading and responding to different kinds of texts in various modes; • Writing in various styles and modes for a range of purposes and audiences; • Socio-linguistics, including the structures of language, stylistics, and the relation between language and class, race, gender, power and other aspects of social life; • The language of media, including social media; • Drama as a mode of learning and performance; • The language and significance of literature, in relation to history and wider cultural study. Our 2021 survey of English education professionals elicited nearly 40 research priorities for the coming decade. The four regarded as most important were Social Justice, Race in English Education, the Nature of the Subject and the Translation of Research into and out of Classrooms. Oracy, which came sixth in the list, has emerged as a priority in the UK, and new topics including Climate Education and AI appear frequently in international submissions. Since 2021, we have published special issues related to the survey findings. Please find details of forthcoming special issues here. Please see the journal’s Instructions for Authors for information on preparing and submitting your contribution. The work of the journal is overseen by the Editorial Board and by the international Academic Review Board, which ensures fair reviewing of all submissions through anonymous peer review. Guest editors are engaged for special issues to focus on a particular theme or contemporary polic
