Aims, scope and focus
Developmental Neurobiology is published by John Wiley and Sons Inc. and is in Zone 4 of Medicine in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Neurogenesis and neuroplasticity mechanisms, Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology Research and Axon Guidance and Neuronal Signaling, together about 32.2% of its articles. Its main subfields are Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)
Developmental Neurobiology welcomes original research articles and critical review papers that report mechanistic but also conceptual advances regarding all aspects of nervous system development, regeneration and aging, reaching across the varied lifespans of invertebrates and vertebrates including humans. Submitted work may concern topics of neuro-evolution, plasticity, the ontogeny of behavior, regeneration and repair including the use of stem cells, but also studies of nervous system diseases, for example neurodevelopmental disorders, neuroinflammation and neuroimmune responses. Submitted work may involve a wide range of strategies including genetics, epigenetics, molecular, cellular, physiological, anatomical or behavioral studies. The journal also has a long and successful tradition of publishing Special Issues on the above topics, which usually provide comprehensive conceptual overviews that fill an important gap in the current literature and provide a valuable resource for researchers in those fields. A complete list of forthcoming and past Special Issues can be found on a dedicated section of the journal homepage. The Editors welcome suggestions of Special Issue topics or pre-submission inquiries about original research reports or potential review articles that fall into the journal's remit. Authors interested in submitting to Developmental Neurobiology should consult the journal's Author Guidelines, which provides useful advice on manuscript preparation and more. All submissions to Developmental Neurobiology should be submitted via the journal's online system. Fees & open access
APC and open-access policy
A subscription journal in which authors can pay to publish their article open access.
| Source | APC | Fee waiver | License | Observed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAlex | USD 4,550 / EUR 3,810 / GBP 3,070 | — | — | |

A hybrid journal charges the APC only when the author chooses open access; publishing under the subscription model is usually free.
The journal's website is authoritative for fees; sources were observed at different times and each keeps its own value, without averaging.
