Головною метою видання є ознайомлення наукової спільноти з результатами досліджень у сфері сільського господарства, забезпечення або продовження наукової дискусії з теоретичних, методичних та прикладних питань, залучення фахівців відповідної галузі до впровадження інноваційних напрацювань вітчизняних науковців. В нашому збірнику публікуються матеріали узагальнювального, проблемно-постановочного і методичного характеру присвячені актуальним питанням сільськогосподарської галузі, а також визначним датам в житті Інституту та ювілярам. Оприлюднюються результати наукових досліджень, публікуються матеріали дисертаційних робіт на здобуття наукового ступеня доктора філософії і доктора сільськогосподарських наук. Редакційна колегія журналу «Зернові культури» приймає до друку лише матеріали з урахуванням тематики та проблематики наукового видання, що стосуються наукових досліджень зернових, зернобобових, круп’яних та олійних культур (згідно з законом України «Про зерно та ринок зерна в Україні» № 547-V від 09.01.2007 р.). Проблематика збірника спрямована на висвітлення досліджень в межах кластеру «Сільськогосподарські і ветеринарні науки» за наступними напрямками: селекція, біотехнологія, насінництво, рослинництво, землеробство, агрохімія та захист рослин. Видання розраховане на наукових співробітників науково-дослідних установ у галузі сільського господарства і професорсько-викладацький склад закладів вищої освіти аграрного профілю, докторантів, аспірантів, фахівців, студентів, спеціалістів.
