W czasopiśmie publikowane są oryginalne prace z zakresu nauk o bezpieczeństwie oraz powiązanych z nimi dziedzin nauk społecznych i humanistycznych, a nawet technicznych (o ile odzwierciedlają misję czasopisma). Misją „Wiedzy Obronnej” są pogłębione badania nad bezpieczeństwem narodowym w zakresie teoretycznym i praktycznym. Poszukujemy więc oryginalnych tekstów w języku polskim i angielskim dotyczących multidyscyplinarnych aspektów bezpieczeństwa narodowego i obrony narodowej w wymiarze militarnym i niemilitarnym. Publikacje zamieszczane na łamach naszego czasopisma powinny obejmować zagadnienia z zakresu wiedzy ogólnej o bezpieczeństwie, a więc teorii i filozofii bezpieczeństwa, szczegółowych dyscyplin wiedzy w tym zakresie (bezpieczeństwo militarne, publiczne, powszechne, polityczne, ekonomiczne, ekologiczne, społeczne, kulturowe, informacyjne, bezpieczeństwo w cyberprzestrzeni i inne), a także pokrewnych nauk pomocniczych (m.in.: prawa bezpieczeństwa, prawa obronnego i wojskowego, administracji bezpieczeństwa, obronnej i wojskowej, historii bezpieczeństwa, socjologii bezpieczeństwa, logistyki, ekonomiki bezpieczeństwa, obronnej i wojskowej oraz edukacji na rzecz bezpieczeństwa). Główny obszar rozważań obejmuje Rzeczpospolitą Polską oraz państwa Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej i Regionu Morza Bałtyckiego. Jednak ze względu na transgraniczny charakter współczesnych zagrożeń środowiska bezpieczeństwa nawiązuje również do innych państw Europejskich i państw członkowskich NATO.
