Fundamentalnym założeniem „Wiadomości Statystycznych. The Polish Statistician” jest łączenie studiów i analiz naukowych z praktyką badawczą w ramach statystyki publicznej. Zakres tematyczny artykułów publikowanych w czasopiśmie obejmuje głównie: studia metodologiczne, praktyczne zastosowania metod statystycznych, badania interdyscyplinarne z wykorzystaniem metod statystycznych, edukację statystyczną, metodologię i organizację spisów powszechnych, historię statystyki. Wysoko cenimy prace badawcze, które opierają się na danych statystyki publicznej i dostarczają ważnych informacji o atutach i niedostatkach tych zasobów, a w ten sposób przyczyniają się do powstania innowacyjnych rozwiązań służących doskonaleniu metod i narzędzi statystycznych. Do publikacji przyjmowane są artykuły mieszczące się w zakresie tematycznym „WS”.
