Appearing three times a year, Visual Culture in Britain is dedicated to exploring the generative interrelations between visual culture, individuals, and societies in Britain, both historically and today. The journal publishes new peer-reviewed scholarship that investigates the forms, spaces, processes, and politics through which visual worlds/materials are made meaningful and examines their effects within an expanded and unsettled concept of ‘Britishness’. Visual Culture in Britain is inclusive and interdisciplinary, welcoming submissions at any time, for original articles, forum pieces, special issues, and reviews. Original Articles This should focus primarily on exploring and interpreting the complex interrelations between visual culture, individuals, and societies in Britain, both historically and today. Such submissions rely on an adequate sample of evidentiary primary materials, engage with the appropriate secondary literature, and, importantly, contribute to advancing either the cultural, methodological, and/or theoretical literature of one or more disciplines/fields. A typical paper should be between 6000 and 8000 words, excluding the abstract (150-250 words), although submissions of up to 10,000 words may be accepted in special circumstances. We also welcome themed sections of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 4 original articles that share a specific focus, plus a short contextualising editorial (max 750 word). Please contact the editors directly if you wish to propose a themed section. Special Issues Special Issues are a space to discuss specific themes and issues through a selective framework. If you wish to propose a Special Issue, please contact the editors directly with the following considerations: A short proposal on the theme / area of enquiry and its relevance to the journal, to its readerships, and to the field of visual culture in Britain (max 500 words). A list of the contributors, their paper titles and format (original article, VCB Forum, review), a short synopsis for each of the proposed papers (max 200 words) and the number of images intended to be distributed across the entire collection. A Special Issue should include a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 original articles, plus a contextualising editorial (around 1,500 words), and can accommodate a maximum of two reviews and two VCB Forum pieces. A publication timeline and anticipated submission date. Visual Culture in Britain Forum This is a space for shorter articles that address em
