Журнал висвітлює теоретичні та практичні питання бібліотекознавства, бібліографознавства та книгознавства, зокрема: дослідження історії розвитку бібліотечної справи, принципів функціонування бібліотечної системи; дослідження історії бібліотеки, формування її фондів, зокрема фонду стародруків та рідкісних книг; дослідження в галузі бібліотечної біографістики; вивчення особистих книжкових колекцій (як іменних фондів, так і розпорошених колекцій), рукописних та архівних матеріалів; розкриття та вивчення фондів Наукової бібліотеки Одеського національного університету імені І.
