Целевая направленность журнала определила его основные рубрики. Важнейшая его задача – определение значимости учетно-контрольных и аналитических процессов в решении основных задач, стоящих перед экономикой страны, раскрытие их роли в повышении эффективности деятельности экономических субъектов и экономики в целом. С этой целью в журнале выделена рубрика теоретико-методологических аспектов изложения проблем, в рамках которых ученые и практики высказывают свои научные взгляды (авторское мнение). Учитывая практическую направленность журнала большая часть его разделов посвящена развитию инструментов и методов, формированию методик учетно-аналитических и контрольных процессов с ориентацией на широкое использование современных информационных технологий и использование экономико-математических методов. Большое внимание в журнале уделяется истории развития, систематизации и обобщению лучших практик российских и зарубежных организаций. При этом периодически печатаются статьи зарубежных авторов, целью которых является информирование российских ученых и практиков о зарубежном опыте из первых уст. Учитывая, что читателями журнала в большей мере являются представители учебных заведений, в журнале выделяются разделы, связанные с изложением вопросов методики преподавания учетно-контрольных и аналитических дисциплин. В журнале широко освещается научная жизнь в стране, дается краткое изложение направлений работы важнейших конференций, обзоры основных докладов и в качестве статей печатаются выступления на конференциях ведущих ученых.
