Based on the experiences made in the 20th century with the two dictatorships on German soil, it explores the background for the development and workings as well as the ramifications of autocratic societies within Europe and elsewhere. Further, it highlights historical, political, social-psychological and cultural constellations as well as the prerequisites and dispositions that foster the theory and reality of free and democratic societies. This journal strives to be a forum for the interdisciplinary exchange of information among historians, political scientists, sociologists, educationists, religious scholars and philosophers.
