Suvremena lingvistika jedan je od vodećih hrvatskih jezikoslovnih časopisa koji objavljuje znanstvene, pregledne i stručne radove iz različitih lingvističkih područja i disciplina. Primaju se isključivo radovi temeljeni na jasno definiranom teorijskom okviru te s precizno razrađenom metodologijom kojom se analizira jezična grada ili problematizira određena lingvistička tema. Rukopisi dostavljeni časopisu Suvremena lingvistika tematiziraju aktualne i najsuvremenije teme iz teorijske i primijenjene lingvistike, oni trebaju zadovoljavati najviše standarde akademske izvrsnosti, unaprjeđivati teorijsko i primijenjeno znanje te doprinositi ili poticati aktualnu raspravu te znanstveni, humanistički i društveni napredak, nudeći nova i izvorna tumačenja u objavljenim istraživanjima. Ciljno čitateljstvo časopisa Suvremena lingvistika čine prvenstveno lingvisti, jezikoslovni istraživači i sveučilišni nastavnici iz područja teorijske i primijenjene lingvistike u Hrvatskoj i inozemstvu. Časopis je namijenjen i doktorandima, studentima lingvistike, fonetike i filoloških studija te stručnjacima iz srodnih humanističkih i društvenih disciplina koje se bave jezikom. Osim akademskoj zajednici, časopis se obraća i široj zainteresiranoj javnosti koja prati suvremena istraživanja o jeziku i jezičnim pojavama.
