Na łamach Studiów z Prawa Wyznaniowego publikowane są opracowania na temat prawnych aspektów wolności myśli, sumienia i religii oraz instytucjonalnych relacji między państwami a kościołami i innymi związkami wyznaniowymi. Celem czasopisma jest pogłębianie naukowej refleksji nad prawem odnoszącym się do zjawiska religijności, z uwzględnieniem jego uwarunkowań historycznych, socjologicznych i kulturowych oraz perspektywy wynikającej z prawa i tradycji poszczególnych wspólnot wyznaniowych. Wiele uwagi poświęcamy prawu polskiemu, które jednak nie może być dziś analizowane w oderwaniu od zjawisk, procesów i tendencji mających znaczenie ogólnoeuropejskie, a nawet globalne. Promujemy więc opracowania, w których problemy dotyczące związków między prawem i religią analizowane są z perspektywy innych krajowych systemów prawnych, międzynarodowego prawa praw człowieka oraz prawa Unii Europejskiej i zamierzamy stale umacniać pozycję periodyku jako ważnego forum naukowej debaty nad prawem wyznaniowym państw europejskich, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem państw Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej.
