Sociální studia, založená roku 2004, jsou odborným recenzovaném periodikem vydávaným Masarykovou univerzitou. Jeho zaměření je primárně sociologické, avšak přijímáme také sociologicky poučené a sociologicky relevantní příspěvky z jiných sociálněvědních a humanitních oborů (antropologie, etnologie, historie, filozofie, politologie). Vítány jsou studie, které nabízejí nové cesty k porozumění společenským otázkám, či originální kritické komentáře k aktuálně probíhajícím debatám v sociologii a sociálních vědách. Časopis je otevřený příspěvkům, které reflektují nově se vynořující a provokativní otázky substantivního, konceptuálního, teoretického nebo metodologického charakteru. Současně podporuje texty, které se soustředí na oblast střední Evropy nebo napomáhají zprostředkovat mezi děním v tomto regionu a mezinárodními odbornými debatami. Žánrový rozsah časopisu je široký – zahrnuje jak původní teoretické a teoreticky zakotvené empirické výzkumné statě, tak recenzní eseje, recenze, kratší poznámky, diskusní komentáře či zprávy z konferencí. Příležitostně také publikujeme monotematická čísla (či bloky) věnované dílčím tématům a editované hostujícími badateli a badatelkami. Časopis vychází 2x ročně.
