Namen in cilji Revija objavlja znanstvene in strokovne prispevke o slovenskem jeziku, ki so zanimivi za slovenistiko in jezikoslovje nasploh. Zaradi mednarodnega značaja je namen revije povezovati sloveniste z vsega sveta, med njimi širiti nova jezikoslovna spoznanja, teorije in raziskovalne rezultate ter s tem spodbujati izmenjavo mnenj v slovenistični skupnosti. Revija je namenjena vsem, ki se raziskovalno ali kako drugače ukvarjajo s slovenščino ali jezikom sploh, in študentom humanistike.
