Siembra es el órgano oficial de difusión científica del Área de Ciencias de la Vida de la Universidad Central del Ecuador que publica con periodicidad semestral (dos números por año), en flujo continuo, los resultados de investigaciones científicas y tecnológicas multi e interdisciplinares en el campo de: Las ciencias agrarias que incluye, entre otros, producción y sanidad vegetal, ingeniería agrícola, ciencias del suelo, entomología, silvicultura, agroforestería, agroindustria, ciencia y tecnología de los alimentos, economía agrícola, sociología rural, desarrollo rural, sistemas alimentarios, agroecología, agricultura regenerativa, agroturismo. Las ciencias pecuarias que incluye, entre otros, producción pecuaria, ciencia animal, sanidad y bienestar, medicina veterinaria, salud pública. Las ciencias biológicas y ambientales que incluye, entre otros, ecología, estudios de biodiversidad y de funcionamiento de los ecosistemas, gestión de recursos naturales, transiciones ecosistémicas, servicios ecosistémicos, resiliencia ecológica, relaciones ambiente-sociedad, cambio climático, uso de suelo en los sistemas naturales, geografía y territorio, ecoturismo. Siembra es editada conjuntamente por la Facultad de Ciencias Agrícolas, la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia, y la Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad Central del Ecuador. Se reciben artículos inéditos ya sean originales o de revisión, así como reseñas bibliográficas y artículos de opinión. Los artículos publicados en Siembra son el resultado de un exhaustivo proceso de selección, el cual incluye al Comité Editorial en primera instancia y el arbitraje por pares (doble ciego), realizado por especialistas nacionales e internacionales.
