Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Sensors Diagnostics is published by The Royal Society of Chemistry and is in Zone 3 of Chemistry in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Advanced biosensing and bioanalysis techniques, Biosensors and Analytical Detection and Electrochemical sensors and biosensors, together about 35.2% of its articles. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Sensors & Diagnostics’ scope spans interdisciplinary applications of sensors and diagnostic techniques, including biomedical research as well as food and environmental monitoring. Contributions that advance digital health and data integration through sensor technology are also encouraged. Key topics include but are not limited to: Biosensors and chemical sensors: Novel approaches to biological and chemical detection, including intracellular and cell-based sensors, wearable devices, and environmental sensors.Physical and physiological sensors: Technologies for physiological monitoring, including wireless and implantable sensors for vital signs and neural activity.Microfluidics and analytical microsystems: Lab-on-a-chip systems, micro total analysis systems (µTAS), and chemometric platforms that enhance analytical precision in diagnostics.Advanced diagnostic methods: Including LFA, LAMP and ELISA, and imaging techniques like MRI, PET or SPECT for sensitive and accurate testing.Digital health and data management: Integrated platforms that combine sensors with data analytics for comprehensive monitoring and diagnostics. Where possible, authors should demonstrate performance using real-life samples. If this is not possible, complex surrogate samples that closely mimic real-life conditions may be used, provided that a clear and well-reasoned justification is included. Sensors and Diagnostics welcomes contributions that drive impactful advances, offering practical solutions to pressing global challenges across these diverse fields. I became Editor-in-Chief of Sensors & Diagnostics because whilst there are journals that publish research on either sensors or diagnostics, this new journal is the first to cover both fields. Peer review Peer review model

Single-anonymised: reviewers are anonymous and author names and affiliations are known to reviewers. Double-anonymised: both the authors’ and reviewers’ identities are anonymous (opt in at submission). Transparent: the editor’s decision letter, reviewers’ comments, and authors’ response for all versions of the manuscript are published alongside the article (opt in at any point prior to acceptance)…
