Rey Desnudo es una revista de publicación semestral dedicada a los libros de historia, con comentarios bibliográficos sobre libros recientes, libros clásicos, dossiers temáticos, y publicaciones antiguas relacionadas con libros. En el caso de los comentarios a textos recientes, se trata de trabajos en torno a libros publicados en los últimos 3 años, sobre cualquier área y especialidad de la disciplina histórica. De esta manera, uno de los principales objetivos de la revista es ofrecer un medio en el que los trabajos recientes sean presentados por medio de comentarios de calidad, sirviendo para la continua actualización historiográfica de los lectores, no solo en los campos en que puedan ser especialistas, sino en todos aquellos en los puedan tener interés. Por otra parte, Rey Desnudo pretende impulsar las diversas posibilidades que ofrece el comentario crítico de bibliografía, lo cual incluye, entre otros formatos, la discusión de libros clásicos, de aspectos específicos de un libro, o de conjuntos de libros que tengan en común una temática. En el caso de estas secciones, los libros comentados podrán ser de cualquier época, siendo el principal objetivo fomentar el análisis y el debate de obras relevantes para la disciplina histórica. Cada número constará además de dossiers temáticos en torno a un tema o a una obra, y de puesta en circulación de obras previamente publicadas y poco conocidas. Todos los comentarios publicados deberán ser trabajos originales y estarán sujetos a arbitraje y evaluación externa. En ocasiones, Rey Desnudo editará suplementos especiales para dar espacio a trabajos elaborados en otros ámbitos, que el comité editorial considere que en algún modo se vinculan con el espíritu de la revista. En estos casos, la revista no realizará revisión por pares.
