A finalidade definidora da Revista Médica de Minas Gerais é o registro e disseminação de estudos, da comunidade acadêmica nacional e internacional, que possam contribuir e apresentar evidências para o avanço nas diversas áreas da Medicina, prezando-se pela originalidade, qualidade e relevância nos trabalhos publicados. Sejam eles Artigos Originais, Artigos de Revisão ou Relatos de Caso. Também são publicados Comentários ou Pontos de Vista e Cartas ao Editor. Adota-se como escopo a publicação de trabalhos em que o assunto principal está dentro de qualquer uma das especialidades médicas incluídas na "Relação de Especialidades Médicas Reconhecidas" e "Relação das Áreas de Atuação Médicas Reconhecidas" expostas na Resolução Nº 2.221/2018 do Conselho Federal de Medicina (CFM), publicada no Diário Oficial da União, de 24 de Janeiro de 2019, Seção I, pg. 67.
