La Revista del Museo de La Plata es editada por la Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. La Universidad Nacional de La Plata, apoya el movimiento de acceso abierto al conocimiento como bien común, por lo que la publicación provee acceso inmediato y completo a todo su contenido y sus ediciones no tienen cargos ni para autores/as ni para lectores/as. Tiene por objetivo principal servir de vehículo de transmisión del conocimiento a la comunidad científica y académica que realiza su labor de investigación en el ámbito de las Ciencias Naturales. Está dirigida a investigadores, académicos, museólogos, estudiantes, y personas con interés en las Ciencias Naturales. Desde su aparición en 1892, la RMLP publica trabajos originales e inéditos de investigación (artículos, notas, revisiones) así como trabajos técnicos y didácticos, sobre cualquier campo de la Antropología, Botánica, Ecología, Geología y Geoquímica, Paleontología y Zoología. RMLP publica además réplicas a los artículos publicados en la misma, resúmenes de Congresos y Jornadas científicas llevadas a cabo en el ámbito de la FCNyM, debates y artículos de opinión sobre temas de relevancia nacional o internacional en las disciplinas abordadas por la revista, reseñas bibliográficas y notas necrológicas.
