REM nació con varios objetivos: ampliar el conjunto de revistas de economía publicadas en España, publicar investigaciones sobre la economía mundial en un sentido amplio, incluidos enfoques interdisciplinarios y orientados a las políticas, y difundir investigaciones sensibles a las preocupaciones del mundo real. La revista sigue comprometida, como desde entonces, con la diversidad temática y metodológica, siempre que se aborden con rigor cuestiones relevantes para la economía mundial y el bienestar de las personas. Estamos recientemente incorporando de manera más explícita en nuestra línea editorial lo siguiente.En primer lugar, queremos fomentar la publicación de artículos que traten sobre desafíos actuales del mundo real que, de un modo u otro, tengan alcance global; desafíos que ahora más que nunca parece importante reivindicar. Entre ellos podemos destacar el cambio climático y los problemas ambientales, la equidad y diversidad en todas sus formas, el cambio tecnológico y su impacto en el trabajo, las relaciones de poder en las cadenas de valor, la financierización y sus efectos, la descolonización del desarrollo, la gobernanza económica inclusiva y participativa, y el (des)orden económico internacional. Segundo, deseamos reiterar la apertura de la revista a miradas interdisciplnares y transdisciplinares. Muchos de los retos presentes en la actual economía mundial requieren de la colaboración de distintos enfoques para su conocimiento y abordaje. De ahí que animemos a nuestros futuros autores a enviar manuscritos que conecten la disciplina económica con otras, como ocurre, a modo de ejemplos, en la economía política o en la socioeconomía; o que incluso incorporen a su investigación miradas adisciplinares, de actores extra-académicos involucrados en el objeto de estudio.En tercer lugar, mantendremos las tres secciones tradicionales de la revista, además de las reseñas de libros. La sección especial y la sección general seguirán publicando trabajos de investigación original revisados por pares. La tercera sección, de debate, divulgación y transferencia estará dedicada a la discusión y difusión de conocimiento riguroso, aunque no necesariamente basado en investigación original. Estos trabajos también serán revisados por pares, pero con criterios de calidad relativos a su utilidad para el debate académico, la divulgación del conocimiento y la transferencia práctica de resultados a actores sociales y políticos.
