La RAP es publica anualment. Es publiquen preferentment articles sobre Prehistòria, Arqueologia i Història Antiga de la Península Ibèrica i sobre les seves relacions amb Europa i el Mediterrani tant a nivell teòric i metodològic com de presentació de resultats d’excavacions, síntesis o estudis crítics. La llengua de la revista és el català i rep articles en totes les llengües oficials de l’Estat, així com en anglès, italià, francès i alemany. Aplica un sistema d’avaluació externa per a cadascun dels treballs rebuts (revisió d'experts doble-cega). La Revista d'Arqueologia de Ponent ha obtingut el Sello de Calidad de las Revistas Científicas Españolas de la FECYT (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología). També ha estat incorporada al Diamond Discovery Hub, un registre europeu de revistes d'accés obert DIAMOND integrat en els serveis del European Diamond Capacity Hub desenvolupat en el context del projecte CRAF-OA, en complir criteris específics relacionats amb la governança, la missió i el caràcter comunitari i institucional de la revista. La Revista d'Arqueologia de Ponent està indexada en les següents classificacions: CARHUS+, 2018: grup B CIRC 2012: grup B Google Schoolar Metrics 2018 (2013-2017): h 6 Mediana h 7 IN-RECH: 2n quartil RESH (CSIC), 2010: grup C LATINDEX, catalogo v 2.0 (2018) També està inclosa en: DOAJ, ERIH PLUS, RACO, Dialnet, ISOC i Sumaris CBUC. La Revista d’Arqueologia de Ponent és una revista d’accés obert, el que significa que tot el seu contingut està disponible lliurement sense cap despesa per a l’usuari o usuària ni per la seva institució. Es pot llegir, baixar, copiar, distribuir, imprimir, buscar, o enllaçar el contingut sencer dels textos dels articles, o utilitzar-los per a qualsevol altre propòsit sempre que sigui legal, sense haver de demanar permís a l’editor/a o a l’autor/a, d’acord amb la definició d’accés obert del BOAI.
