Časopis Psihološka istraživanja je sadržinski profilisan kao publikacija koja pokriva društveno relevantne teme iz različitih oblasti psihologije i koja podržava kulturno i društveno osetljivu psihologiju. To se, pre svega, odnosi na proučavanje tema i problema koji su važni za određene kulture i društva, uz primenu valjanih i pouzdanih naučnih metoda i tehnika. U fokusu su tekstovi koji se uz pomoć psihološkog konceptualnog aparata i psihološke metodologije bave značajnim fenomenima koji nas okružuju. Časopis podržava razvoj psihologije kao kulturno osetljive, kritičke i socijalno angažovane nauke, kao i društveno angažovanje psihologa. U tom kontekstu, jedna od uloga časopisa jeste da podrži objavljivanje istraživanja koja mogu biti izvor potrebnih informacija i preporuka za kreiranje razvojnih dokumenata društvene zajednice, strategija i politika u različitim oblastima društvenog života, utemeljenih na podacima koji su prikupljeni u naučnim istraživanjima. Jedna od misija časopisa jeste i podsticanje komunikacije unutar naučne zajednice putem otvorenosti za naučnu polemiku i kritičke prikaze značajnih publikacija iz oblasti psihologije. Časopis je otvoren i za granična područja, tj. za istraživače koji se bave psihološki relevantnim temama u okviru ostalih društvenih nauka. Časopis Psihološka istrazivanja objavljuje sledeće kategorije naučnih članaka: originalne naučne radove, pregledne radove, kratka ili prethodna saopštenja, naučne kritike, polemike i osvrte. Časopis takođe objavljuje stručne članke, informativne priloge i prikaze.
