Czasopismo poświęcone jest problematyce prawa karnego oraz nauk pokrewnych, obejmując w szczególności zagadnienia z zakresu: prawa karnego materialnego, prawa karnego procesowego, prawa karnego wykonawczego, kryminalistyki, kryminologii, międzynarodowego prawa i procesu karnego, porównawczego prawa i procesu karnego, prawa i procesu karnego skarbowego, prawa wykroczeń oraz postępowania w sprawach o wykroczenia, problematyki compliance karnego (criminal compliance), zagadnień interdyscyplinarnych na styku prawa karnego i innych dziedzin nauki, w szczególności medycyny i nauk sądowych. Każdy numer czasopisma obejmuje opracowania dotyczące aktualnych problemów prawa karnego i procesu karnego, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zmian legislacyjnych oraz ewolucji doktryny. Publikowane są również analizy zagadnień spornych i kontrowersyjnych konstrukcji teoretycznych w obszarze nauk penalnych. Czasopismo ma charakter interdyscyplinarny. Celem czasopisma jest stworzenie forum dla debaty naukowej, wymiany poglądów oraz upowszechniania wyników badań w obszarze prawa karnego i dziedzin pokrewnych.
