Основная цель журнала – информирование научной общественности и работников практического здравоохранения по широкому кругу вопросов особо опасных, природно-очаговых, социально-значимых инфекций, биологической безопасности, эпидемиологическому надзору, санитарной охраны территорий, обеспечения противоэпидемической защиты населения от биологических угроз. Он является единственным в Российской Федерации научно-практическим изданием, специализирующимся на освещении широкого круга вопросов особо опасных инфекционных болезней, санитарной охраны территории Российской Федерации и государств-участников СНГ. Одной из задач журнала является предоставление возможности публикации результатов диссертационных исследований. Читательская аудитория журнала – это исследователи, врачи и специалисты, работающие в области микробиологии, эпидемиологии, эпизоотологии, инфекционных болезней, разработки средств диагностики и профилактики опасных инфекций, обеспечения биологической безопасности, из Российской Федерации и стран СНГ.
