18 September, 2026This paper models growing bacterial colonies under confinement and reports intermittent pressure drops reminiscent of avalanche behavior. A statistical analysis of these events shows that their scaling exponents are similar to mean-field predictions for avalanches in granular materials, suggesting that a new type of avalanche behavior takes place in bacterial colonies driven by particle growth rather than shearing or compression. #BiophysicsSpotlight #AdvancingField

Fees & open access
APC and open-access policy
A subscription journal in which authors can pay to publish their article open access.
No source has fee information yet; check the journal's website.
A hybrid journal charges the APC only when the author chooses open access; publishing under the subscription model is usually free.
The journal's website is authoritative for fees; sources were observed at different times and each keeps its own value, without averaging.
