Aim: To develop understanding of people-nature interactions by providing a leading forum for new ideas, research and discussion. People and Nature is a journal of relational thinking. We are a broad-scope, open-access journal publishing work that contributes to understanding of the relationship between humans and nature. We understand relational thinking as relevant to both the practice and content of research, focusing on the interactions, connections, and processes that mutually constitute ‘humans’ and ‘nature’. We welcome submissions from a wide diversity of research areas, including those that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries or combine approaches from different disciplines. Reflecting this diversity, we encourage submissions that advance understanding through conceptual, theoretical, modelling, analytical or review approaches. The use of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodologies are all welcome. We are open to submissions that are highly innovative and experimental in their approach, and welcome those that stimulate discussion and debate. We particularly seek contributions that: (i) ensure that both the 'people' and 'nature' dimensions of a submission are treated in a rigorous fashion and provide insights into their interaction from both perspectives. Importantly, studies should contribute to understanding the depth and quality of the relational dimensions between People and Nature. This focus of the study should be clearly explained, and would typically be the central focus of the research. (ii) are clearly rooted in and positioned to advance a relational theory, concept, or framework. Empirical research will ideally be positioned with respect to one or more of these, and will describe why the study advances gaps in the literature or adds a novel perspective. This would typically be a central feature of the study design and introduction. (iii) are explicit about the research questions or hypotheses being addressed; and (iv) if centred on a particular case study, clearly situate that case study in a wider context and make clear the wider relevance of findings and insights. Submissions to the journal should be accessible to a broad audience and reach beyond the boundaries of work published in discipline or subject specific journals. For more information on the kinds of submissions we want please see our author guidelines, or read our editorial.
