Nordisk tidsskrift i veiledningspedagogikk har som formål å bidra til kompetanseutvikling i veiledningspedagogikk på tvers av profesjonsgrupper, og medvirke til å gi veiledningspedagogiske aktører et felles talerør som styrker tilhørighet og forskningsaktivitet på feltet. Tidsskriftet skal ha en uavhengig kritisk rolle i fagutviklingen og tar sikte på å styrke fagfeltets akademiske kvalitet, samt publisere forsknings- og fagartikler. Tidsskriftets målgruppe er forskere, utdanningsinstitusjoner på alle nivåer, praktikere og andre med interesse for veiledning. NORDVEI skal publisere artikler på norsk, dansk, svensk og engelsk.
