By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Lepidoptera: Biology and Taxonomy, Insect-Plant Interactions and Control and Plant and animal studies, together about 29.6% of its articles. The invertebrate diversity of New Zealand is of great interest worldwide because of its geographic isolation and geological history. The New Zealand Entomologist plays an important role in disseminating information on field-based, experimental, and theoretical research. The New Zealand Entomologist welcomes submissions of original research papers, review papers and short communications on insects and allied groups from New Zealand, Australia, and the South Pacific. The journal’s subject matter encompasses taxonomy, phylogenetics, biogeography, biological control and pest management, conservation, ecology, and natural history. Papers with a primary focus on topics such as new species records or novel field observations may be more suitable for our sister publication, The Weta. Please contact the Editor in advance if you are unsure whether your proposed submission meets our publication criteria. The journal is the official publication of the Entomological Society of New Zealand. Papers published or submitted elsewhere for publication will not be considered, but publication of an abstract or summary elsewhere (e.g. conference proceedings) does not preclude full publication in the New Zealand Entomologist. Accepted papers become copyright of the Entomological Society of New Zealand. The journal is published in English, but we also welcome publication of abstracts in Maori. Instructions for preparing manuscripts may be found at: http://ento.org.nz/publications/author-guidelines Peer review policy: All original research articles, reviews and short articles are reviewed by at least two referees expert in the field of the submitted paper.
