Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Neurogenetics is published by Springer Berlin Heidelberg and is in Zone 4 of Medicine in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Genetic Neurodegenerative Diseases, Hereditary Neurological Disorders and Neurological diseases and metabolism, together about 28.7% of its articles. Its main subfields are Genetics. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Neurogenetics publishes findings that contribute to a better understanding of the genetic and epigenetic regulation of nervous system development and function, as well as of brain dysfunction. In addition to Neurogenetic disorders, studies addressing the genetic or epigenetic basis of neurodevelopmental, neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases are the main focus of the journal. Thereby, in addition to neurons, studies investigating the role of glia cells in these diseases are welcome. Neurogenetics therefore includes findings in humans and other organisms that help understand neurological disease mechanisms and publishes papers from many different fields such as biophysics, cell biology, human genetics, neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neurology, neuropathology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. Neurogenetics is published in hardcopy and online. It includes Review Articles, Original Articles, Short Communications and Letters to the Editors on the field of neurogenetics and neuroepigenetics. Well-powered studies reporting negative results are also welcome. Past Editors-in-Chief Georg W. J. Auburger, Experimental Neurology, Medical Faculty, Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University Manuel B.
