Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Nanocomposites is published by TAYLOR & FRANCIS LTD and is in Zone 3 of Materials Science in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Polymer Nanocomposites and Properties, Carbon Nanotubes in Composites and Advanced Sensor and Energy Harvesting Materials, together about 22.9% of its articles. Its main subfields are Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

Nanocomposites are multiphase or hybrid materials which when combined together, display markedly different properties from the bulk components. Nanocomposites differ from conventional composite materials due to the nanoscale dimensions of the filler phase and the exceptionally high surface to volume ratio of this phase. As a result they often possess unique mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical or catalytic properties which are controlled by factors such as local chemistry, mobility, morphology, or crystallinity. In addition, nanocomposites often offer a combination of several properties, making them even more attractive as multifunctional materials for the future, with potential applications in aerospace, healthcare, energy materials, sensors and other systems. The journal will deal with all aspects of polymeric and ceramic nanocomposites and nano-engineered composites, from nanoparticles, synthesis, morphology, structure, interfacial bonding, ageing, properties (e.g. mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, wear, barrier, flame retardancy, antifouling, sensing and drug release) and characterization, processing to potential applications. Peer Review Policy All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor. If found suitable for further consideration, papers are subject to peer review by independent, anonymous expect referees. All peer-review is single anonymized. Publishing Ethics The journal adheres to the highest standards of publishing ethics, with rigorous processes in place to ensure this is achieved. Taylor & Francis is a member of Committee of Publications Ethics (COPE) and utilises CrossCheck for all Journals.
