Aims, scope and focus
Mycorrhiza is published by Springer Berlin Heidelberg and is in Zone 2 of Biology in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Mycorrhizal Fungi and Plant Interactions, Forest Ecology and Biodiversity Studies and Fungal Biology and Applications, together about 56.9% of its articles. Its main subfields are Plant Science. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)
Mycorrhiza is an international journal devoted to excellent research into mycorrhizas - the widest symbioses in nature, involving most plants and diverse soil fungi world-wide. Articles cover topics ranging from molecule to ecosystem, through cell and plant, from fundamental to applied science. We only publish papers that advance understanding of mycorrhizal plants and fungi. We aim to bring important observational and/or experimental studies, using any biochemical, structural, computational, -omics, ecological, paleobiological, evolutionary, genetic or physiological approaches to a wide scientific audience. Interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary and synthetic approaches are welcome. Key areas of Mycorrhiza include: Organisms: mycorrhizal signalling, development, functioning, nutrition, immunity, resistance, systematics and reproduction. Interactions: mycorrhizal plant-biotic interactions (including eukaryotes, prokaryotes and viruses), mycorrhizal plant-abiotic interactions (including salinity, drought, fire, pollutants, etc.), plant-plant interactions through common mycorrhizal networks, and mycorrhizal hyphosphere-soil interactions. Agro- & ecosystems: agroecology, forestry, biodiversity, global change, distribution, ecology, engineering, management, services, conservation and sustainability. Original research papers, short notes, method papers, reviews and commentaries are welcome. Mycorrhiza offers a platform for new concepts and discussions, and emphasizes the importance of studies with well-designed experiments or surveys discussing informative, potentially negative, results to open doors for collaborative science. Innovative and integrative strategies for unlocking the potential of mycorrhizal plants and fungi to produce quality goods and services in a sustainable context are very relevant to Mycorrhiza.
