Журнал є платформою для оприлюднення досліджень мовних явищ, що виникли під впливом позамовних чинників, зокрема внаслідок соціальних змін в Україні, в інших країнах Східної Європи, а також у дотичних до неї регіонах. Мета журналу – інтегрувати зусилля науковців у різних галузях мовознавства (соціолінгвістики, постколоніальної лінгвістики, лексикології та граматики природних мов, семантики, прагматики, дискурсології, корпусної лінгвістики та інших) для висвітлення минулого і сучасного стану мов, причин і наслідків мовних змін. Унікальність видання полягає в тому, що воно окрему увагу зосереджує на студіях, які розглядають українську мову з постколоніальної перспективи. Видання презентує лінгвістам, а також представникам інших наук матеріали про мовні зміни в Україні зокрема та східно-європейському регіоні загалом, який впродовж останніх кількох століть зазнав численних суспільних трансформацій, перебував і перебуває у центрі політичних і воєнних процесів локального і глобального характеру.
