Maya America: Journal of Essays, Commentary, and Analysis publishes academic papers, commentary, personal reflections, and creative works, including literature and poetry. We accept Spanish and English, and the Mayan languages. Our authors, editors, and advisors come from multiple academic disciplines, and we welcome people from non-academic backgrounds who have experiences, stories, and points of view that add to our knowledge platform. The journal platform is centered on people with Maya ancestry, but we welcome discussion on the Indigenous Americas (Abilyala). Maya America refers to the traditional lands of the Maya towns and nations, as well as new lands such as the United States and Canada. Thus, “Maya America” refers to the historic and present-day geographic regions where people of Maya descent live.
