„Kwartalnik Filmowy” to najważniejsze w Polsce naukowe recenzowane czasopismo filmoznawcze. Od lat wprowadzamy do polskich badań filmoznawczych najciekawsze trendy tematyczne i metodologiczne rozwijające się na świecie, a jednocześnie stymulujemy i upowszechniamy wielokierunkowe badania nad filmem polskim. Większość wydań ma formę tomów monograficznych poświęconych ogłoszonemu przez redakcję tematowi z zakresu historii lub teorii filmu, sztuk audiowizualnych i mediów, z uwzględnieniem interdyscyplinarnych i międzykulturowych aspektów badań nad sztukami audiowizualnymi i kulturami filmowymi. Znaczna część publikowanych artykułów problematyzuje dawne i współczesne kino polskie i wschodnioeuropejskie, często w świetle nowych zjawisk w innych kinematografiach lub w kinie światowym. Interesuje nas osadzanie badań filmoznawczych w szerokich kontekstach kulturowych i społecznych, zachęcamy więc autorki i autorów do ujęć interdyscyplinarnych oraz transnarodowych.
