Jurnal Ekologi, Masyarakat dan Sains (Jurnal EMS) adalah inisiatif ECOTAS, yang merupakan lembaga penelitian dan pengembangan di bidang lingkungan hidup dan pembangunan berkelanjutan yang bersifat independen, untuk diseminasi artikel ilmiah secara elektronik. Jurnal diharapkan dapat menjadi sarana penyebarluasan pengetahuan, gagasan, pemikiran dan hasil penelitian dari peneliti maupun praktisi mengenai berbagai hal yang berkaitan dengan upaya untuk menciptakan hubungan dan saling keberadaan yang harmonis antara manusia dengan alam lingkungan hidupnya. Jurnal memfasilitasi diskusi antara peneliti maupun praktisi mengenai lingkungan hidup dan kedudukan manusia di dalamnya secara multidisiplin dan terbuka untuk memperoleh pengetahuan mengenai hubungan dan interaksi manusia dengan lingkungan alam, sosial, dan budayanya termasuk lingkungan buatan manusia sendiri serta bagaimana selayaknya manusia berperilaku dalam kedudukannya. Salah satu dasar keilmuan utama dari Jurnal EMS adalah ilmu lingkungan (environmental science) di mana permasalahan lingkungan dan upaya mencari solusinya dipelajari secara multidisiplin dengan melibatkan berbagai bidang ilmu yang terkait. Lingkup topik Jurnal EMS meliputi: (1) Sistem Lingkungan: Materi, Energi, dan Kehidupan, (1) Evolusi, Interaksi Spesies, dan Komunitas Hayati (3) Populasi Manusia (4) Bioma dan Keanekaragaman Hayati (5) Pelestarian Lingkungan: Hutan, Padang Rumput, Taman, dan Cagar Alam (6) Pangan dan Pertanian (7) Kesehatan Lingkungan dan Toksikologi (8) Iklim (9) Polusi Udara (10) Air: Sumber Daya dan Polusi (11) Geologi Lingkungan dan Sumber Daya Bumi (12) Energi (13) Sampah, Limbah Padat dan Berbahaya (14) Ekonomi Lingkungan dan Urbanisasi (15) Agama, Filsafat dan Lingkungan Hidup (16) Politik, Hukum dan Kebijakan Lingkungan. Jurnal menerima naskah yang ditulis dalam Bahasa Indonesia yang dapat dipahami oleh pembaca yang luas, baik peneliti maupun praktisi, dari berbagai disiplin ilmu baik ilmu alam, ilmu sosial dan humaniora yang bertalian dengan hubungan manusia dengan ekosistemnya yang berkaitan erat dengan kesejahteraan dan keberlanjutan kehidupan di bumi.
