Journal of Urban Ethnology jest rocznikiem, pismem otwartym dla badaczy miejskiej kultury, zarówno w jej wymiarze teoretyczno-metodologicznym, jak i szczegółowej analizy aspektów kultury miasta. Etnologia/antropologia miasta rozumiana jest szeroko, nie tylko w odniesieniu do kultury środowiska stricte miejskiego, ale uwzględniająca także problematykę rozprzestrzeniania się miejskiego stylu życia na inne środowiska społeczno-kulturowe, w tym np. na małe miasteczka czy wieś. JUE jest czasopismem interdyscyplinarnym, w którym publikują: etnolodzy/antropolodzy kultury, kulturoznawcy, historycy, socjolodzy, architekci i urbaniści, literaturoznawcy, folkloryści, muzealnicy, reprezentujący wiele różnych ośrodków naukowych. Zasięg oddziaływania JUE obejmuje region Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Poszczególne numery JUE poświęcone są określonym tematom (np. nr 20/2022: Architektura - Architekci - Interpretacje; nr 19/2021: Miasteczko - pamięć - dziedzictwo - konteksty; nr 18/2020: Antropologiczne konteksty kreowania i użytkowania przestrzeni miasta). Ponadto w każdym numerze w części Miscellanea jest miejsce dla artykułów niezwiązanych z wiodącym tematem numeru. Artykuły publikujemy po polsku, a także w innych językach, głównie po czesku, słowacku oraz po angielsku, abstrakty i słowa kluczowe w języku artykułu i w języku angielskim.
