The Journal of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (JSTMU) is an open access bi-annually peer reviewed medical journal of the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), Islamabad, Pakistan. The journal encompasses papers from biomedical research, clinical specialties and interdisciplinary medical fields; thereby entertaining the scientific, research and clinical work of a wide variety of health care professionals such as medical practitioners, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, medical technicians, paramedics, laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, dietitians and bio-engineers. The journal is premised on creating influence on the academic as well as corporate thinkers. It is dedicated to presenting advances in medical sciences supporting the recognition and publication of medical scientific research and its effects on human health and well-being. A key question we apply to submission is, "Is this paper going to help readers better understand and conceptualize the research topic while adding something new and innovative to the current pool of knowledge?" We are interested in high quality medical scientific research in the area(s) of: Basic Sciences such as anatomy, biochemistry, bio-mechanics, cytology, embryology, epidemiology, genetics, histology, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, nutrition science, pathology, pharmacology, physiology and toxicology, bioinformatics, and others; Medical specialties such as cardiology, critical care medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, hematology, hepatology, infectious diseases, nephrology, neurology, oncology, pediatrics, pulmonology, rheumatology and sports medicine, and others; Surgical specialties such as general, ophthalmic, cardiovascular, colorectal, oral and maxillofacial, neuro, oncologic, orthopedic, plastic, podiatric, transplant, trauma, vascular and pediatric surgeries, and others; Diagnostic specialties such as clinical laboratory sciences, pathology, diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine and clinical neurophysiology, and others; Dental specialties such as orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology, endodontics, public health dentistry, oral and maxillofacial radiology, and others; Other major specialties such as anesthesiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, medical genetics, nursing, pharmaceutical care, hospital & clinical pharmacy practice, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, preventive medicine and public health, and others; Interdisciplinary fields such as addiction medicine, medical ethics, health professions education, clinical pharmacology, forensic medicine, hospice & palliative medicine, health informatics, pain management, pharmacogenomics and tropical medicine, dosage form sciences, natural product chemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery & development, and others. There is heavy pressure on space in the journal, and the above interests mean that we do not usually publish papers that simply report local conditions without generalizable results, reports on human health and well-being without validated and reproducible scientific data, and studies not presented and inferred using established research methodologies and protocols. We particularly welcome contributions from scientists based in, or addressing conditions in, developing economies and national issues that fall within the above scope.
