Scope

Aims, scope and focus

Journal of Separation Science is published by Wiley-VCH Verlag and is in Zone 3 of Engineering in the CAS Journal Ranking (2025 upgraded edition). By OpenAlex counts of its recent articles, its largest topics are Analytical Chemistry and Chromatography, Analytical chemistry methods development and Microfluidic and Capillary Electrophoresis Applications, together about 42.7% of its articles. (generated from OpenAlex topic counts and CAS ranking data)

The Journal of Separation Science (JSS) covers all areas of chromatographic and electrophoretic separation methods in theory and practice, both in the analytical and preparative mode. Furthermore, sample-preparation approaches and related techniques are included. Manuscripts focusing on methodological or instrumental advancements, with a specific emphasis on detection methods such as (ion-mobility) mass spectrometry, along with innovative applications, are also welcome for publication. Manuscripts on hyphenation, automation, and miniaturization are particularly welcome. Pre- and post-separation facets of a total analysis may be covered, as well as the underlying rationale for developing or applying a method. The work must contribute to the advances in separation science or analytical methodology/applicability within the journal's focus. The application of the known methods to ‘just’ another substrate is not regarded as a sufficient reason for publication.
