The Journal of Legal Analysis is the only peer-reviewed journal on all aspects of law. It welcomes traditional legal articles as well as interdisciplinary work and invites submissions from scholars worldwide. It is published as an open access journal by Oxford University Press on behalf of Harvard Law School with a board of editors drawn from many universities. The vision for the Journal was Professor Steven Shavell’s, who founded the JLA in 2008. An alumnus of Harvard Law School, Terry Considine, generously provided funds to launch the Journal and to sustain it for many years. The first issue appeared in 2009. Past editors of the Journal were Professors Mark Ramseyer (2009-2018) and Oren Bar-Gill and Daryl Levinson (2019-2023). Message from the Editors As new Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Legal Analysis, we proudly carry forward its mission as a peer-reviewed alternative to student-edited law reviews for first-rate legal scholarship. The vision of the JLA’s founder, Steven Shavell, was to offer for law what is standard in other disciplines: a peer-reviewed outlet that can assess and vouch for quality of articles and provide collegial feedback to authors, which student-edited law reviews cannot. More to the point, his vision was to offer this for legal scholarship as a whole, not only interdisciplinary “law and” fields like “law and economics,” which had already moved in this direction. This vision remains as vital as ever. We are proud to continue the great work of our predecessors Oren Bar-Gill, Daryl Levinson, and Mark Ramseyer. Under their leadership, the JLA’s impact factor has surpassed that of much older peer-reviewed journals like the Journal of Legal Studies. We are grateful for the continued support of Harvard Law School, its Dean John Manning, our publisher Oxford University Press, and a superb board of editors, especially our co-editors William Baude, Gabriella Blum, Daniel Hemel, Daphna Renan, and Nicholas Stephanopoulos. The JLA will continue to publish works from scholars worldwide on all law-related topics, whether doctrinal or interdisciplinary. The JLA is not another “law and” journal. The three of us embody very different scholarly traditions. We are united, however, in our interest in law and our appreciation of novel, quality contributions. We recognize that such contributions can come in different shapes, whether written in standard law journal mode or in a shorter, less heavily footnoted format. We do not require unnecessary ‘st
