Global biodiversity is under unprecedented pressure, as climate change, habitat degradation, unsustainable harvesting, and the relentless pace of human development continue to impact and threaten the conservation status of many species of fauna and flora. Since the mid-Twentieth Century, an array of international treaties have emerged to confront the challenges facing global biodiversity, supported by a constellation of regional nature conservation instruments and a vast array of increasingly sophisticated national legislation. Cumulatively, this plethora of protective regimes continues to inspire novel legal and policy approaches to nature conservation. Since 1998, the Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy has been the leading peer-reviewed forum devoted to the study of the legal approaches to biodiversity protection. The Journal welcomes submissions addressing aspects of the following broad themes: • international and regional wildlife treaty regimes in conserving species; • evaluation of national legislation and regulations focusing on wildlife conservation and management, especially from the Global South and jurisdictions that have been traditionally under-represented in the literature; • animal law and animal welfare; • theoretical, ethical, historical and cross-disciplinary approaches to biodiversity regulation; • the impact of judicial decisions at the national, regional and international levels; • the interface of legal and political institutions with other sectors in society that have a substantive impact on the management and conservation of species and ecosystems. The Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy 's readership includes conservation professionals; members of academic institutions specializing in wildlife law, ecology, and wildlife management; animal law; government agencies; non-governmental conservation organizations; students in conservation and law-related disciplines; and interested members of the general public. Peer Review Policy: All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and double anonymized peer review.
